Royal Arsenal Riverside, located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, is not just another housing development, but one that exudes vibrancy, personality and a real community spirit. Easily accessible via rail, river or air it is one of South East London’s most connected developments and has played a significant part in transforming Woolwich.

It is also steeped in history, dating back to the establishment of the Woolwich Dockyard in 1512 for the construction of Henry VIII’s flagship ‘Henri Grace a Dieu’. Between 1914 and 1994 Royal Arsenal expanded into one of the principal munitions centres in the country employing 80,000 workers at its peak during its peak.

By 1994, the Ministry of Defence had vacated and consequently became isolated from the rest of Woolwich with contaminated and neglected land, heritage buildings in disrepair and providing no benefit to the local community.

In 2000, Berkeley entered into partnership with the London Development Agency, English Heritage and Royal Borough of Greenwich to transform the 88-acre brownfield site as part of a £1.2 billion regeneration project. Just over 20 years on from work starting, it now features a new station on the Elizabeth Line, a vibrant leisure, retail and creative arts district to rival Southbank. Contributing to it being considered not just a significant residential development in London too but putting Woolwich on the map as a destination.

Currently, just under 4,000 homes have been delivered at Royal Arsenal Riverside, 24% of which are affordable. Upon completion (targeted date of 2032) this number will rise to 5,163.
