Lunar New Year Celebrations

The fun did not step there, as during the course of the day Royal Arsenal Riverside residents Rosemary Kennedy and her son Mikey oversaw a range of arts and crafts activities. These included the decoration of traditional lion masks and pictures of dragons.

Over 500 members of the community (and the surrounding area), came together on Saturday 10th February to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Held in conjunction with the Royal Arsenal
Farmers Market, attendees were treated to a captivating Lion Dance, which started in Woolwich Works Workers Yard before making its way to Artillery Square.

Cristyn Sharkey, Berkeley’s Community Engagement Co-ordinator, worked with the Greenwich Cooperative Development Agency – organisers of the Farmers Market, to host the event and said: “Seeing so many people come together to celebrate this occasion was incredibly heart-warming. Events like these are not only a great way for people to meet each other but also support the traders who attend the Farmers Market on the second and last Saturday of each month. I would also like to thank Rosemary and Mikey for their superb work in running the arts and crafts activities.”
